Precast Lifting Design Reports

Precasterz provides expert structural design for precast concrete lifting systems. We ensure the safe and reliable handling of precast elements through meticulous analysis and adherence to international standards. Our engineering expertise guarantees the structural integrity of lifting inserts and precast components during all lifting operations, ensuring project safety and efficiency.

Our Expertise in Precast Lifting Structural Design

Ensuring the safe and efficient handling of precast concrete elements is paramount. Our structural design services for lifting inserts provide the necessary analysis and verification to guarantee safety and reliability during the lifting process.

Rigorous Structural Analysis

We perform detailed structural analysis of both the precast elements and the lifting insert systems. This involves evaluating stresses and forces during lifting to ensure all components can safely bear the load, accounting for factors like the element's weight and dynamic effects.

Adherence to Industry Standards

Our designs strictly follow relevant international and regional codes and standards, such as ACI 318 and DEP specifications, alongside local regulations like QCS. This ensures that our work meets the highest engineering requirements for safety and quality.

Verification of Lifting System Adequacy

We verify the structural adequacy of the selected lifting inserts and their anchorage within the concrete element. This includes checking against potential failure modes like steel failure, concrete breakout, and pullout to confirm they can safely support the factored lifting loads.

Ensuring Safe Handling Operations

The ultimate goal is to ensure that precast elements can be lifted, moved, and installed safely and without damage. Our detailed design outputs and verification processes contribute directly to safe handling operations on site.

The lifting checks we perform

For every precast element we verify the complete lifting load path — from the rigging, down through the inserts, into the concrete and the element itself — at each handling stage.

Lifting load and dynamic factor

We establish the factored lifting load, applying the dynamic / impact factor appropriate to demoulding, turning, transport and erection, plus an allowance for form suction at demoulding.

Sling and rigging tension

We calculate the tension in each sling leg from the sling angle and number of legs, and the resulting forces delivered to the inserts, keeping sling angles within safe limits and checking lifting-beam reactions where a spreader is used.

Insert and anchor capacity (ACI 318-19, Chapter 17)

We check the cast-in inserts and anchors against every failure mode — steel strength, concrete breakout, pullout, side-face blowout and pryout — in both tension and shear, including combined tension-shear interaction and the effects of edge distance and spacing.

Lifting-bar (steel-rod) anchors

For cast-in lifting bars we verify the bar shear capacity and the bearing and anchorage of the bar within the concrete, checking each load category for the lifting arrangement.

Anchorage reinforcement

Where the concrete capacity alone is not sufficient, we design supplementary anchor reinforcement to develop the insert forces into the element and to control cracking at the lifting points.

Element stresses during handling

We check the flexural and shear stresses induced in the element itself by the chosen number and position of pick points, including slender panels and plain (lightly reinforced) concrete elements that are sensitive to handling.

Tilting, turning and storage

We verify the stresses during tilt-up and turning operations and confirm the support and stacking arrangement used in storage and transport.

We design to ACI 318-19 Chapter 17 for anchoring to concrete and to PCI handling practice, aligned with the project specification (QCS and DEP where applicable).
