Precast Cover Slab Design

We design reinforced precast concrete cover slabs for drainage, utility-trench and trafficked applications. These slabs are governed by flexure and shear under earth, surcharge and traffic loading, and by serviceability crack-width control for durability, so we design and detail each unit to carry its load cases and to be reinforced for the specified exposure.

The design checks we perform

Load cases

We build the governing combinations from self-weight, earth and surcharge, and traffic / wheel loading where the slab is trafficked, at ultimate and serviceability limit states.

Flexural design

We size the main and distribution reinforcement for the design moments across the span and at supports, and confirm minimum steel and cover.

Shear design

We verify one-way shear capacity and provide shear reinforcement only where the section requires it.

Crack-width control

We check service-load crack width against the durability limit and adjust bar size and spacing to comply.

Development and anchorage length

We detail reinforcement development, lap and standard-hook anchorage lengths to ACI 318-19 so bars are fully effective at the critical sections.

Bearing and support

We verify bearing length and support details so the slab seats correctly on its supporting walls or beams.

Lifting and handling

We check lifting inserts and slab stresses during demoulding, stacking and installation.

Governing standards and how we apply them

ACI 318-19

Our primary code for flexure, shear, serviceability crack width and reinforcement development and anchorage, including the standard-hook development-length provisions used to detail the slab.

QCS

We align materials, durability and cover with the project general specification for local approval.

Why choose Precasterz for cover slab design

Correct development-length detailing

We size and anchor every bar to ACI standard-hook and development-length rules, so reinforcement is effective exactly where the moments and shears peak.

Durability-driven serviceability

We treat crack-width control as a primary check, not an afterthought, which matters for buried and exposed cover slabs.

Buildable units

Our detailing accounts for casting, lifting and installation so the slabs arrive and place without rework.
